ATLANTA (AP) — Three north Georgia men are accused of trying to buy explosives that authorities say they planned to use to attack government targets.

Thirty-six-year-old Brian Edward Cannon and 28-year-old Cory Robert Williamson appeared in federal court in Rome Friday for a detention hearing. Both were denied bond.

Terry Eugene Peace, who’s 45, is due for his first court appearance Monday.

According to a sworn statement from an FBI agent, the men talked in online chat rooms about sabotaging infrastructure.

Authorities say the three were arrested Feb. 15 at a meeting they had set up to buy explosives from a man who turned out to be a confidential law enforcement source.

The three face charges of conspiring to receive and possess firearms, specifically pipe bombs and thermite grenades.
